ChatGPT account and privacy guide
ChatGPT
The useful way to evaluate ChatGPT is by workspace and chat type—not by one blanket privacy claim.
Product, models and API: This is the ChatGPT product record. Model names describe separately versioned model records and dependencies; this page does not establish one permanent model for every ChatGPT session. OpenAI documents separate billing systems for ChatGPT and the API platform. A ChatGPT subscription should not be read as API entitlement.
Bottom line
Personal ChatGPT workspaces and OpenAI’s named business/API products have different model-improvement defaults. Temporary Chat is another distinct mode.
Before you use it
Before entering sensitive material, confirm whether you are in a personal workspace, a named business product or Temporary Chat, then check the current Data Controls setting.
What can change
Plan names, prices, access limits and product features can change quickly. Use the versioned Product Facts pricing entries on this page, where available, with their stated evidence and scope.
What the official sources support
availability
OpenAI lists ChatGPT plans and access through web, iOS and Android surfaces; plan features and limits differ.
Applies to: Consumer ChatGPT plan comparison; not the OpenAI API · Evidence: openai-chatgpt-pricing
privacy
Personal ChatGPT workspaces may contribute content to model improvement by default, and users can turn off “Improve the model for everyone.”
Applies to: Personal ChatGPT workspace; business products and API excluded · Evidence: openai-chatgpt-data-use, openai-chatgpt-data-controls
privacy
Temporary Chats are not used to train models and are deleted from OpenAI systems after 30 days, subject to the source’s safety and legal qualifications.
Applies to: ChatGPT Temporary Chat; not a universal retention statement · Evidence: openai-chatgpt-data-controls
privacy
OpenAI says ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu and API inputs and outputs are not used to train models by default.
Applies to: Named business products and API only; contractual exceptions remain governing · Evidence: openai-chatgpt-data-use
Scope
Consumer ChatGPT plans and account controls on current supported ChatGPT surfaces.
Excluded: OpenAI API; ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu contractual terms unless explicitly cited; region-specific checkout totals and taxes
Evidence still missing
- Region-specific checkout totals, taxes, and any currency or billing cadence not established by the cited source remain unverified. Listed amounts are source observations, not checkout quotes.
- No Kingy hands-on verification of control propagation or deletion timing.
- Enterprise contract, retention and data-residency terms require account-specific review.

Freshness and corrections
This account and privacy summary was source-checked on August 9, 2026. Later identity or pricing checks in the Product Facts card do not update this summary. No correction form or intake is enabled. Until a public correction workflow has an owner and retention policy, corrections are handled only through a separately authorized editorial process.
