Where is the AI in Garmin Cirqa?
The video gets this point right: there is no ChatGPT-like model living in the band. Cirqa has no microphone, conversational assistant or large neural processor. Its intelligence is quieter and more conventional. Sensors collect streams of imperfect biological data; software looks for patterns, compares them with your personal baseline and combines them into scores that are easier to act on.
Consider recovery after a hard leg session. Cirqa cannot see muscle damage or know that your quadriceps are sore. It can notice that resting heart rate stayed elevated, HRV fell below your normal range and sleep quality declined. Those indirect signals can support an estimate that your body remains under stress. This process—combining several signals to reduce the weakness of any one measurement—is commonly described as data fusion.
That does not make the score infallible. Optical heart-rate sensors can be affected by fit, motion, skin characteristics and activity type. Sleep stages are algorithmic estimates, not a clinical sleep study. Training readiness also cannot know whether a particular joint hurts or whether your program calls for a low-volume technique day. Fitbit Air is the obvious value alternative. It is much smaller, about half the price and adds heart-rhythm monitoring for signs of AFib, though Google reserves its Gemini-powered coaching for Premium. Polar Loop competes most directly on subscription-free simplicity and currently undercuts Cirqa on sale. Cirqa’s strongest advantage is ecosystem depth. Garmin lists a 14.8 g module and total weight of 20.7 g or 21.2 g depending on band size. The fabric band uses quick-release pins and comes in S–M for 120–200 mm wrists or L–XL for 145–240 mm wrists. Garmin also says Cirqa can be worn on the wrist or with an arm-band option, which may help during activities where wrist motion affects optical readings.
The package contains the Cirqa Smart Band, a USB-C charging/data cable and documentation. The cable terminates in Garmin’s proprietary device connector, so “USB-C cable” should not be mistaken for direct USB-C charging on the tracker itself.
