Source Verification: How to Know If a Launch Is Real

A launch is only as strong as its sources. Verification does not mean distrusting everything. It means knowing which claims are backed by official or credible evidence.

Module 2: How to Separate Real AI Products From Launch Hype 35 minutes Beginner Outcome: Write a Source Verification Note with at least three sources.

Sources to check

Start with official sources, then use third-party pages to confirm context. Do not treat an AI-generated summary as a source of truth.

  • Official website
  • Official blog
  • Product documentation
  • GitHub repo
  • Hugging Face page
  • Product Hunt page
  • App store listing
  • Chrome extension listing
  • Pricing page
  • Changelog
  • Founder/company social posts
  • Demo videos
  • Press releases
  • Launch posts
  • Waitlists
  • API docs

Source quality table

High: official product page, official docs, official pricing page, active GitHub or Hugging Face repo. Medium: founder/company announcement, Product Hunt, demo video. Low: random aggregator page, unattributed social comments, AI-generated summary.

What to capture

Record the source URL, what it proves, what it does not prove, and the date you checked it. A pricing page proves access terms better than a launch tweet. A docs page proves developer readiness better than a landing page headline.

Kingy Tip: Use sources to answer specific questions. One source rarely proves everything.
Red Flag: If every claim traces back to the same unsourced summary, the launch is not verified.

Try this

Exercise

Verify one launch using at least three sources. Label each source as high, medium, or low quality.

Short quiz

Check your judgment

Is a random aggregator page a high-quality source?
Readable answer

No. It can help discovery, but it should not be the proof for pricing, availability, or claims.

What source is usually best for pricing?
Readable answer

The official pricing page or official docs. If neither exists, mark pricing as unclear.

Why should you record the date you checked a source?
Readable answer

AI products change quickly. A launch can move from waitlist to live, change pricing, or remove a feature.

Choose an answer for each question, then check your score.

Do this now

Find three sources for one launch and write what each source proves.
