OpenAI claims a formalized finite-time blowup for the unforced 3D Euler equations
A companion OpenAI paper constructs smooth, compactly supported, divergence-free initial velocity on three-dimensional space whose unforced incompressible Euler evolution develops a finite-time singularity, with unbounded C1 norm and divergent time-integrated maximum vorticity.

Why it matters
The unforced Euler regularity problem is a central open question in mathematical fluid dynamics. The claimed construction is distinct from concurrent forced-Euler work because no external forcing drives it.
Limits
The 57-page paper and Lean artifact have not yet received located independent semantic review or peer review. Machine checking does not by itself establish that the formalized definitions capture every analytic condition intended by the paper.
