Breakthrough Tracker record
An M31 superbubble census finds clustered supernovae can sustain galactic turbulence
A combined FAST and Jansky VLA survey identified 118 superbubbles across M31. Their inferred kinetic-energy injection rates match independently estimated turbulence-dissipation rates in magnitude and spatial distribution.

Why it matters
Galactic turbulence regulates gas structure and star formation. This galaxy-wide census provides unusually direct observational energy accounting across a nearby spiral galaxy.
Limits
This is one galaxy, and bubble properties are inferred. Matching injection and dissipation establishes energetic sufficiency, not that supernovae are the unique driver; gravity, magnetic effects and other processes may contribute.
