GPT-6.2 “Bel” is being discussed as a possible OpenAI release ahead of the final day of Tibo’s 28-day shipping challenge. The rumor connects an alleged model identifier, the name “Betelgeuse,” and expectations of a November 1 announcement.
Our October 31, 2026 review found no GPT-6.2 release entry in OpenAI’s model directory, model release notes, or API changelog. Those checks leave the name, capabilities, pricing, and release date unconfirmed in the official sources reviewed. An absent public listing does not establish whether a private experiment exists.
There is also a recent detail to read before treating Sunday as a launch date. Tibo’s Day 26 post, reproduced by an unofficial tracker, says the next two days will involve banked resets. It names no new model. Day 26 reproduction.

Where the Bel and Betelgeuse rumor comes from
The identifier circulating online is gpt-6.2-betelgeuse. Search-indexed text from OrcaRouter’s October 30 reconstruction describes a screenshot shared in an X discussion: a Discord bot message reportedly displays that identifier with an “INTERNAL” label. The report attributes the screenshot to a third-party tracker and calls its provenance unverified. This review obtained no authenticated API response or official documentation connecting that identifier to an upcoming product. OrcaRouter’s reconstruction.
A reproduced post from Chubby, the commentator behind @kimmonismus, also refers to GPT-6.2 “bel” as incoming. It begins “Cant confirm.” That qualification belongs alongside the prediction whenever the claim is repeated. Reproduced post and source link.
Even an authentic internal identifier would leave the public product name, release date, and access conditions unanswered. A private experiment could change names or never become a public product. We have not established that Bel and Betelgeuse identify the same model.
Direct retrieval of the original X posts was blocked during this review. OrcaRouter’s page was also inaccessible directly; its account above comes from search-indexed text. Social-post details therefore rely on the linked reproductions and attributed reporting. We have not authenticated the tracker screenshot.
Why people are watching November 1
The date comes from the challenge calendar. A reproduction of Thibault Sottiaux’s October 4 announcement says that Tibo promised a clear improvement relevant to most Codex/Work users each day for the following 28 days, or a full reset. That reproduced announcement does not promise a particular model on the final day. Announcement reproduction.
Counting October 5 as Day 1 places Day 28 on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Pacific time. Independent trackers use that convention. It explains the date attached to the speculation; it does not establish a GPT-6.2 release schedule. Challenge calendar and counting convention.
The later Day 26 update describes mobile account switching and says the next two days will bring banked resets. The tracker timestamps it at 05:42 UTC on October 31, which was still October 30 in Pacific time. Readers can speculate about what those resets might precede, but the reproduced text gives no model name or release commitment. Day 26 record.
What remains unconfirmed
For anyone considering a subscription change or planning development around Bel, the unanswered questions are practical.
| Question | Status in our October 31 review |
|---|---|
| Has OpenAI announced GPT-6.2 Bel? | No official confirmation identified in the sources reviewed. |
| Are Bel and Betelgeuse the same model? | Unconfirmed. |
| Will it launch on November 1? | Unconfirmed; the challenge calendar is not a release commitment. |
| What can it do, and how does it perform? | No authenticated model-specific results established in this review. |
| What will it cost, and who can use it? | No official pricing or access terms identified under these names. |
The official-source checks above do not settle the authenticity of the alleged leak. They establish a narrower point: we could not corroborate its product and launch claims with the public documentation reviewed.
What would make an update useful
An official announcement naming the model would resolve its public identity. Release notes and access documentation would establish where it is available. A rate card would answer pricing questions. Published evaluations would need their benchmark versions, settings, and methods attached before a meaningful comparison could follow.
Those are separate questions. A name appearing in documentation would not automatically validate every specification circulating beside it. A newly announced model might also have a different name, with no confirmed relationship to Bel.
For comparison, OpenAI’s October 26 release notes explicitly name GPT-6.1 Terra and describe its rollout in the API, Work, and Codex. The same entry specifies that Terra is not available in Chat. That level of product detail is missing from the Bel evidence reviewed here. OpenAI’s model release notes.
For now, treat November 1 as a date to watch. Before changing a subscription or building around Bel, check for a named official release and the access terms for the product you intend to use.
