Two milestones
OpenAI announced the Evals deprecation on June 3, 2026. The first operational milestone is read-only access for existing evals on October 31. The later November 30 milestone is shutdown of the dashboard and API.
Migration path
OpenAI’s Promptfoo guide describes manually recreating prompts, provider configuration, test cases and assertions. A fresh run is separate from earlier OpenAI Evals runs. Check recreated grading behavior before relying on it for regression decisions; numerical scores may differ.
Required action
Prepare for the October 31 read-only milestone. Recreate the required evaluation configuration in a replacement workflow and validate it before November 30.
Scope and testing limits
- Keep the read-only and shutdown dates distinct.
- The Evals notice includes graders documented for eval workflows; it does not change the separate self-serve fine-tuning dates.
- The migration guide describes manual recreation and does not require an OpenAI Evals export feature.
- Recreated graders and similarity scores need validation; migration equivalence was not tested.
