At the Greater Memphis Chamber Annual Chairman’s Luncheon, xAI’s Brent Mayo took the stage alongside Chamber President and CEO Ted Townsend. Before an audience of over 1,000 business and community leaders, they unveiled xAI’s bold vision.
“In Memphis, we’re pioneering development in the heartland of America,” Mayo declared. “We’re not just leading from the front; we’re accelerating progress at an unprecedented pace while ensuring the stability of the grid utilizing megapack technology.“

This expansion isn’t just about hardware; it’s about positioning Memphis as the global epicenter of artificial intelligence. The city’s transformation into the “Digital Delta” is a term lovingly coined by FedEx founder Fred Smith and his son, FedEx Executive Richard Smith.
Ted Townsend emphasized the significance: “When we announced six months ago that xAI would make Memphis its home for Colossus, we recognized it as our defining moment. Memphis has provided the power and velocity necessary for not just xAI to grow and thrive, but making way for other companies as well.“

Fortune 500 tech giants Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro Computer (SMC) are not just watching from the sidelines. They’re establishing operations in Memphis, further solidifying the city’s burgeoning tech scene.
The Greater Memphis Chamber has even established an xAI Special Operations Team, led by Townsend himself. Senior Vice President of Global Business Development Troy Parkes is spearheading the initiative, ensuring everything runs like clockwork.

While others take years to build such infrastructure, Musk’s team assembled the initial phase in about four months. The goal is to reach 300,000 GPUs by next summer, with no signs of slowing down.
