The November 6 announcement began a phased Paint and Notepad rollout to Windows 11 Insiders in Canary and Dev; some Insiders would have to wait.

Image Creator screenshot retained from the original November 2024 article: a pirate image on the canvas, a description box, an Oil painting style selector and three variation thumbnails.

Microsoft’s announcement describes generative fill: select an area, describe an addition, click Create, then retry or Keep. Initially, it required a Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PC, Microsoft sign-in and a supported market. Copilot+ is a PC category.

The post’s November 14 update added Beta and Release Preview rollout; fill required a Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PC and Windows 11 24H2+, excluding that Beta Paint update.

Image Creator and Notepad Rewrite were previews in the US, France, UK, Canada, Italy and Germany, requiring Microsoft sign-in. Microsoft 365 Personal/Family or Copilot Pro subscribers in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand could use AI credits.

The announced Rewrite feature offered rephrasing, tone and length changes: select text and choose Rewrite.

Generative erase was designed to remove selected objects and fill the gap. Microsoft listed all Windows 11 PCs as compatible; that hardware scope did not override the phased preview rollout.
