GPT-6 Astra migrations require parameter and tool-routing changes
Adopting gpt-6-astra requires a supported reasoning effort and removal of unsupported sampling/log-probability options. Chat Completions can serve requests without tools; Astra tool integrations must use Responses and its input/output Item shapes.
Kingy verdict
GPT-6 Astra is not a drop-in replacement for callers that rely on unsupported sampling fields or Chat Completions tools. Audit request parameters and move tool workflows to Responses before switching, then validate on representative tasks. This is an opt-in migration with no retirement deadline.
Required action
Inventory gpt-6-astra callers, reasoning settings, sampling/log-probability fields and tool routes. Use a supported reasoning effort; omit temperature, top_p and top_logprobs, remove Chat Completions logprobs or the Responses message.output_text.logprobs include entry as applicable, and migrate tool definitions/results to Responses. Validate on representative tasks before switching production.
Choose supported reasoning effort
For gpt-6-astra, the model card lists low, medium, high, xhigh and max. The none setting is unsupported. The migration guide recommends low when moving from none or minimal, followed by evaluation on representative tasks. Use reasoning.effort in Responses or reasoning_effort in Chat Completions.
Remove unsupported request fields
Remove temperature, top_p and top_logprobs from Astra requests. In Chat Completions, also remove logprobs. In Responses, remove message.output_text.logprobs from include while preserving other supported include entries. These are documented migration requirements; Kingy has not reproduced an API error.
Move tools to Responses
Chat Completions supports Astra requests without tools. Tool integrations require Responses. Model-card function-calling support does not establish tool support on every endpoint. Migrate tool definitions and input/output Item handling together, including function_call_output results linked to the originating call_id.
Keep the model scope exact
This record applies to gpt-6-astra. Do not transfer its restrictions to Sol or Luna. Current guides also discuss GPT-6.1 Sol, which is outside this record. This article does not claim that existing model integrations are being retired.
No mandatory deadline
September 3, 2026 is the documented migration notice date. This is an opt-in migration, not a retirement of existing models. No mandatory migration or retirement deadline is established, and this record adds no calendar milestone.
Evidence limits
Historical first-detection date is unverified. Publication and source-check dates do not establish when Kingy first detected this change. No account, inference, migration, SDK, billing, cache or monitoring test was performed. Prompt caching, misalignment monitoring, Fast/Ultrafast modes, regional processing and pricing need separate implementation checks.
