Fenn Quarry Lantern Route
Route steward field booklet
Meeting point and departure
The Fenn Quarry Lantern Route is a fictional guided walk through a disused display quarry. Stewards use
this booklet to organize a short evening route. It does not grant access to any working quarry or certify
outdoor equipment.
Meeting place
The group meets at the blue crane mural. The steward counts walkers there before moving the group
towards the lantern rack.
Group limit
A route group contains at most 14 walkers. A spare lantern does not create an extra place in the group.
Departure token
The steward carries a brass leaf token. The token identifies the group at the turntable crossing and stays
with the steward throughout the walk.
Low-light hold
If the path light drops below the steward's marked line, walkers wait at the chalk arch. The steward
records a low-light hold in the field booklet.
Rack check
Before departure, the steward checks the lantern hooks visually. Walkers take a lantern only after their
names have been checked against the meeting count.
Route practice
The group stops together when the steward gives the hand signal. A walker who wants to leave tells the
steward at the next stop so that the count can be updated.
