Orrin Moss Seed Clock
Exhibit timing and cabinet notes
Visitor demonstration
The Orrin Moss Seed Clock is an imagined museum exhibit that uses wooden seed shapes and a moving
dial. The seed shapes are carved objects. This record concerns the demonstration sequence, not the
cultivation of real plants.
Display cycle
The demonstration dial completes one cycle in 32
minutes. A guide points out the starting notch before
releasing the dial.
Opening marker
The guide places the white pebble beside the
starting notch. Visitors can follow the pebble while
the dial begins to move.
Model set
The public demonstration uses 12 wooden seed
shapes. Shapes from the repair cabinet are not
added to this set during a demonstration.
Visitor boundary
Visitors watch from the curved floor line. Guides
pass a separate carved sample along the line while
the moving dial remains behind its cover.
Paused stage
During a fog pause, the dial is held at notch N3. The
guide labels that pause in the demonstration log
before giving an explanation.
Log distinction
A completed cycle and a paused cycle use separate
log entries. A guide does not combine two partial
demonstrations into one completed demonstration.
